English; 30-35 sec film Recap

In English for the past 3 weeks, we have been working towards producing a 30-35 second film, I believe we have finished the film overall editing we do not have the film yet because someone doesn't have any data to do so. So the video will be here on this post soon.

Our overall teamwork was excellent, we agreed on everything and listened to each other suggestions. It was pretty fun to do this even tho I was the one filming and making many mistakes.

SOST; Sustainability Inquiry

This isn't necessarily proofread so they may be the wrong words, punctuation in the wrong, place and repetition.

What is the environmental/social sustainability issue?
Deforestation is one of the biggest and most vital sources of pollution.
Humans taking away homes, land from animals and other species for
factors and palm oil-based plant farms. And making room for other
unnamed things. 20 percent of the world's oxygen is produced by
the Amazon forest. Half of the world's tropical forests have already
been cleared out, this increases the rate of global warming. This is
an issue that may not affect us now but will diffenently affect us in
the near future and how will live in our own lifestyles. There are
many endangered species homes that are being taken away due to
us taking away from their homes. 80 percent of the earth's land
animals and plants are affected that live in forests. deforestation
threatens species including, orangutan, Sumatran tiger,
and heaps of species of birds.

What factors have caused this issue? Humans mainly and wildfires. And human-made farms and factories degrading the environment. pollution will grow more and moreover the earth. From wood extraction, (logging or wood harvest for fuel or charcoal) For road building and more land for the growing population. there is not really a direct cause for deforestation which comes from any things mainly us at the most. The causes are livestock ranching, logging, overpopulation, and lastly Infrastructure Expansion. The main things cause soil erosion, water cycle, loss of biodiversity, and at the last climate change. Deforestation takes many endangered species by letting them crowd up in the bit of forest that is left or even left to die.

What will happen if this issue continues to degrade? The earth may slowly begin to turn into an overpopulated sandy rock and over-polluted, there would be less air to breathe by that more carbon dioxide and other gasses polluting us and the entire earth. they are used for, wastelands, urban use, logged area, mining, fires, logging, it is estimated in within 100 years time there will be no rain forests left. the rate of deforestation equals the loss of 20 football fields every minute. The overexploitation of forests is making it difficult to replant new life/plants. Deforestation affects the water cycle. We would have fewer animals and other creatures roaming the earth and this will affect the many food chains linking to other species to become extinct.

What are the possible solutions to this issue (either being currently done or could be done)?  Plant new trees, use other products than wood, recycle used paper give it another purpose. Stop ruining the forests for factories and other uses for money. We need to preserve the things we already have and keep on reusing them, instead of taking more away. Reduce the amount of beef we take in, to tone down the pressure to clear more forests for cattle. we could also cut down the use of paper plates and plastic utensils. and using a refillable drink bottle and filling them with tap water. Choose reusable items over disposable. Also repairing leaky faucets and taps and toilets, collecting rainwater for gardens and you could also green up your lawns with a variety of plants and trees. Startup a compost pile.

Overall I believe that I did well to find/to search for information for this deforestation project, I think I well packed these with my best prior knowledge from past learning. From the sources, I only needed to use two of them I actually didn't need the others because I found so much on the others. I learned about the problems and effects causing deforestation, ranching, wastelands, urban use, logged area, mining, fires, logging all of these problems are mostly human-caused. The solutions to deforestation are, collecting rainwater, green up your lawns with a variety of plants and trees, and start up a compost pile. I've learned so much more than I intended now I really understand the impacts and the solutions onto the environment more clearly.

Home economics; carrot cake cupcakes

in cooking, this time we made carrot cake cupcakes, we used, gathering the ingredients together was kindas of easy gathering them and mixing and combining. Overall we had put the oven and pastry bake instead of fan bake so it kinda mucked it up so we had undercooked cupcakes but still, they tasted good. We used flour, white sugar, salt, carrots, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, oil, and eggs.

English 30-35 second film (Day 7)

In English this time we are, we are working on work on removing the background sound and, and adding extra details to the film, we are nearly there to finish up on this we just need to review over this a bit more and improving the film we got so far. In the end, we managed to mostly all of it done. Our next goal is to keep reviewing it over it adding and cutting our minor things, then we will be all set.

English; 30-35 Seocnd Film (Day 4)

In English we've just about finishing the 30- 35-second film as we only have about two scenes to film now, we couldn't finish the others because we needed a certain person to be in it but they weren't here so we couldn't record it. We had just about finished the last two scenes we are going to begin editing them all together now and next time. overall we were mostly onto filming it, we think it turned out great.

Science; Exsistance of Black holes

In science, our task after the text was to chose from a variety of ideas from a slide show shown to us.  I've finally decided to do it on Blackholes about their main branching of facts and theories.

A black hole forms from the center of a great fallen star collapsing up upon itself. When it collapses it creates a huge supernova or a and exploding star which blasts part of the star into space.
The names, ''no point of no return', is the area and region around the black hole called the event horizon. This is the area where the gravity around the black hole pulls all material into the Blackhole, as it spins around it like a whirlpool until reaching the center.

A black hole is an area or so to say the region of space from which nothing can escape from its wraith when you enter its gravity pull there's no chance of escaping. Apparently to the general theory of relativity, it is the result of manipulating of curving spacetime caused by a huge mass. Around a black hole, there is an entry with no return called the event horizon. The opposite of a Wormhole, that allow you to travel somewhere random and with a chance of return.

Black holes do not create radiation on their own, there are detected by radiation given off by material that is heated in the accretion disk and also by the black holes gravitational pull. Or by even light passing by.

English; 30-35 Second film (Day 1)

In English, we've started a new topic about a 30-35 long film, we've been divided into the group between 3-4. with Tia, Subnesh. I think we've had a great start into planning this, trying to explain it is kinda simple we've nearly finished the planning. We are doing Studying one, so one person is studying and the other person is not studying in this film there will be many different shots that I cannot remember, I cannot wait to film this to get this done.

Home Economics; Paper Rolls

In cooking, we worked on a similar thing to spring rolls, instead of using pastry we used paper rice roles. They included carrots, cucumber, mayo, lettuce, capsicum, sprouts. and others that I've forgotten. I think our teamwork was well presented with some muck up on cutting some ingredients. With using the paper rice rolls I think they didn't have the best of taste with the paper rice rolls.

(it didn't actually look like this I just took a pictures from google bc we forgot to take photos of it oh well.)

SOST; Rotorua Lakes Pollution Problem

Image result for rotorua lakes

Rotorua lakes Pollution Problem
The current situation regarding the lake's conditions. The lakes are a significant resource to the town's water supply for all their needs. What pollution is polluting the lakes? Over the years the lakes have been polluted by mainly us by wastewater seeping into the lake, and cows droppings and urine, and fertilizers.

They have started to improve the lakes slowly by stopping in how much pollution seeps into the lakes as five of them can be seen as having some improvement. The future for the lakes? Hopefully, the lake's pollution wouldn't get any worse at the times being. If did there would be a big problem in the future of the lake's water usage so the water could be drinkable again.

(This is not well proofread this point so they may be some mistakes and reptation or words)

It wasn't really fair if one of them had missed out on the drinking that wouldn't really be fair but the guy who wasn't meant to drink as he didn't at the start but he felt left out so he started to drink with them even knowing that he was meant to drive, as he ended up crashing, and losing his friends trust, they no longer call them 'mate,' they just call him by his first name.

Home economics; Smoothies

In-home economics, we made fruity ilk shakes os each of our four groups was given restrictions and must have in their smoothies we were a strawberry blast at first then changed to berry blast in the second round. The others we compete with were Rainbow blend, cracking coconut, and banana breezy.

My opinion on them; Sensory evaluation
Rainbow Blend
My thoughts about all of the fruits were a great mixture like sours and sweetness,  I liked the texture but I think a little less on the fruit it kind of overpowering on the flavors.

Cracky coconut
The first time was really heavy on the coconut milk I noticed the other peoples around me reactions. The second time it was mostly fruits, it needs a bit of work

Banana Breezy
the first time around it tasted perfect it was not too heavy on the banans or the milk and the other ingredients. The second time around when they added chocolate chips the taste was kind of lost, but overall it tasted pretty good.

Berry Blast
Lastly, our group the first time it was really good with the strawberries and the icecream, milk, and yogurt, but there is one thing about the first time around we put a bit too much yogurt. The second time around we added raspberries, it was really really chunky because the ice cream didn't melt, it was a bit cold but it still tasted ok.

SOST; Sustainability Paragraph Task Deforestation

What is the sustainability issue?
Deforestation of Amazon rain forests.
What causes this issue?
Humans cut down to planting oil-based plants to be used.
What is being done to solve the issue?
Planting trees.

Produce a pamphlet or mini-book summarising the local communities, sustainability issues and suggesting some solutions.
= It affects us Natoninaly so nations have forests that they cut down for their living purposes and for more space.

Deforestation is a big problem around the world, especially in the thriving Rain forest. Our population is growing as we take more land away from wildlife. We need to not take away so much that we cannot give back we need to balance out our needs and the environments and endangered species that live deep into rain forest as we are taking their home away.

We use the area we dig up and the tree we destroy for palm oil-based plants just for palm oil. We do not need to take away so much land from wildlife we are just polluting the earth as tree plants create some of the air we need to breathe so the more we take away the less have left the breath and so will other living creatures. So a way to fix this is by stopping cutting down trees and destroying rain forests and using just to plant palm oil-based plants. Replant the forest we take away.

(I kinda wrote about stuff that doesn't really affect me what the task was meant to be about well I cannot read things properly. Oh well)

Home economics; Choc-chip Banana Muffins

In-home economics, this time we made choc-chip banana muffin as I think we handled getting the ingredients ts and follow the recipe pretty well. This recipe included, banana, choc-chips, wholemeal flour, brown sugar, yogurt, canola oil, baking powder, milk, and an egg to make it healthier by reducing how much of each ingredient was added. They actually tasted better and smelled nicer than other recipes. They actually turned out really great I thought they wouldn't have tasted good.

Home economics; Macaroni and cheese

Last week we made Maccaroni and cheese we made a roux sauce (white sauce) containing butter, cornflour, and milk, the reason we used cornflour is to make it a smoother sauce. We cooked the pasta with boiling salted water. I think overall we did a good enough job of gathering the ingredients together, but it took a bit of extra time. But the end result turned out good it tastes awesome but not as good as homemade macaroni and cheese.

SOST; Sustainability Task

What is sustainability?
Sustainability is about our needs without damaging most of the environment around us. We use resources from the environment for almost anything we need as that includes what we eat, live and drink, as all the things listed all depend of how we balance out on what we take out, and what we give back.

Why is it important to sustain the environment?
It is important to sustain the environment because it'll reflect on tho future generations and how they'll live Becuase if we damage the environment it'll be bad for them and other animal's survival.

Caroline Study; SEXXXY Paragraph Task Practice

In English, we are practicing SEXXXY Paragraphs.

(S)In this scene, it shows us that the real father didn't acknowledge Coraline. This shows that their relationship is distant. (E)It is seen as Caroline is seeking for attention from her father, and not receiving it as the real father is gazing right at his screen typing away Ignoring Caroline's reflection. (X)The director did this to show how we should think about it and see their relationship. (X) The opposite of the real father, is the other father. Who's the one who pays attention, to Coraline. (X)Unlike the real father, try's to make her stop bothering him by giving her task so she can get out of his way so he can keep working on his work. (Y) Comparing him to the real mother is that they both want to be left alone, and to stop being annoyed by her whining. So that why the real mother sent her away to her father so she can bother him.

(S)In this scene, it is seen as a above view (High angle. (E)This shows us the whole end of the table and the people who are sitting at including, Other father, Other mother, and Caroline. (X)The lighting enhances this scene by giving it a bright and vibrant artificial glowy yellows, reds, and oranges. (X)The scene makes the mood happy, warm, and cozy. The director made it this way to show us how happy she is in this trap of a perfect world. (Y) Linking back to the real world parents, it shows that their other parents care about her well being more than her real ones and that has a take on Caroline's behavior towards them.

(I probably made a lot in mistakes in this paragraph)

(S) In this scene, it shows the point of view of the other mother. (E)This shows the start of the whole thing by the other mother releasing the spy-doll to spy on Caroline and to see what makes her tick, and what is the problem in her life to lure her in. (X)The director did this to hint on what's going to happen next to the next major step fo the other mother to catch caroline. (X) Another example is the doll moving on its own to where ever Caroline moves off to tracking her every movement. (Y) In the end, she gets Coraline's attention by controlling the doll and leading her to her trap in the other world.

P.E Gymnastics

The last weeks in P.E we are working on gymnastics, and practicing our skills. The skills I had before gymnastics I had was not that much I am not that advanced at, but I can do the simplest ones. I could do the forward roll, and walk across the beam.

I didn't think that I have improved I still had the same skills from the previous years because  I am not capable of doing it. But I did work on attempting a bridge but failed. Maybe next time we do it I'll try to do the bridge better.

I know its a picture of my lower body. I don't care at least it is something.
 (I didn't take the picture)

Art; Photographer Ansel adams

Ansel Adams
I like about this piece is the scenery and the setting in it. The scheme of this image is in a forest with some mountain in the background, and the river that is leading towards it. there is nothing I really dislike like about, but there is a thing I am wondering about it, I wonder what it looks like in color.

I would be inspired by this picture to take a similar one, but a closeup of it.

English Caroline study; Workshop 4

Workshop 4: Creating the illusion of the other mother
The differences between how the other mothers is portrayed in the film
Gradual change - slowly changing.
Subtle - unnoticed, and not obvious

Lighting; Artifical warm lighting, orange
Feel; formal, safe happy, calm
Director; it shows that caroline feels at home.

Picture 2
Physical; looks less like the other mother, short, fewer curves

Costume; Dark black and red more-bug like.
Lighting, Artifical less wark yellow light
Feel; frightened, creepy, uncomfortable, intimidating.
Director; Shows us that the other mother isn't perfect like she thought.

Picture 5
Physical; pointy elbows, head, long neck, skin, and metal skeleton really much taller spider-like legs with needle hands, and extra legs. look like a giant metal spider
Costume; Dark black rags that are ripped and dirty.
Lighting, Artifical dark, green light.
Feel; uncomfortable, intimidating terrifying, evil, grotesque, horrified
Director; Gran's attention, show other mother is evil and want to steal her soul.

Themes
- Courage and Bravery
- Looks can be deceiving

Example paragraph

The theme of looks can be deceiving is shown through the gradual change of the other mother from a honey-sweet honey woman into a vinegar sour metal spider. (E) At the start of the film, the other mother appears short curvy and wearing the same clothes as caroline real mother. (X) This makes the audience feel safe, happy and relaxed towards the other mother. (X) The director did this to show s that caroline feels at home with the other mother in the other world. However, the other mother changes slowly throughout the film until she finally becomes a skeletal, metal spider who wants to trap caroline in her other world. (X) When we first see the other mother she is in a warm orange light that makes her feel safe, but by the end, she is surrounded by a dark green light which makes her feel seem evil, grotesque and horrifying. (X) Selick shows these changes to help the audience to be and this shows the theme, looks can be deceiving.

English; Workshop 3 Follow up task (Brainstorm)

In English, in workshop 3 our following up task is to write a paragraph about the similarities and the differences, between these three pictures.

Brainstorm;

Color is effective in these three pictures.

Picture 1;

The real world in the woods;
- Cold natural light
As it consists of light and dark greys, pale dark greens, as it is filled with thick fog.
As Caroline, the mood is not that happy, but of a boring tone, and anger and sadness that is unseen.

Picture 2;
In the real world kitchen;
- cold natual yellow light
- As it consists of pale yellows and whites.
As it makes it feel empty and boring with nothing to be happy about.
The mood is not happy, and boring

Picture 3;
In the real world bedroom;
- cold natural light, that consists of light blues and pale white
piercing through the windows on the boring dark brown and greys and whites.
- The mood is boring, filled with restless unhappiness that is not seen visibly.

- Feels - cold, boring, large, cluttered, lonely, old, cramped, dark
Why does the director do this?
- Shows us that Caroline is unhappy there. Shows us the real father is too busy to spend time with Caroline.

B. Other-World study
Colors - yellow, vibrant, red, orange, - orange artificial warm light
Feels - happy, safe, warm, vibrant, welcoming, clean, perfect.
Why did the director do this?
- Shows us that the other father wants to be spend time with Caroline.

Example
Color is effective in helping to create the two worlds and show the theme 'looks can be deceiving.'  The real-world study uses a color palette predominantly of greys, whites, and blues. This creates a cold lonely and boring atmosphere. The director did this to show that caroline is unhappy in the real world and that her real father is to busy to spend time with her. The use of a cold natural light re-enforces this mood. Juxtaposed to this is the use of color in the other world study. Vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows make the room feel, warm, safe and cozy.  Selick used this palette to show that caroline is happier in the other world where the other father has time for her.  This shows that 'looks can be deceiving' because caroline mistakes the bright perfect world for a safe place when really it was a trap.

English Caroline study Workshop 2

Atmo/mood - the way you feel in a situation

1. Describe the lighting for the viewer
2. What is the effect of this lighting for the viewer?
3. Why do you think the director chose to light this scene this way?
 Brainstorm -
Cold light;
- white/blue light
-makes you feel cold/clinical

Warm light;
- Orange/yellow light
- makes it feel warm/safe

A - The Real-World Kitchen
outside - rainy, windy, misty, cold, miserable
- Natural light
- Cold - white light
small. cold boring, sad lonely
Shows that caroline doesn't like it  here and is unhappy
Wants to leave as it doesn't feel like home.

B - The Other- World kitchen
cozy, warm, happy, welcoming, safe
- Warm orange light
- Artificial light from light bulbs
Makes it feel like a better home as it makes it look like
she has a family that cares about her.
Caroline is happy here.
- The other world is the perfect web or trap to catch Caroline

Themes
Big ideas in the story
1. looks can be deceiving/ be careful what you wish for.
2. Bravery and Courage.

Example
In the kitchen scenes, lighting is used effectively to enhance the story and shows the theme 'looks can be deceiving.' In the real world's kitchen, natural cold light comes through the rainy window which creates an atmosphere of Boredom, Sadness, and loneliness. The director did this to show us that Caroline doesn't like it there and is unhappy. Juxtaposed to this the kitchen in the other world. It is lit by a warm orange artificial light that makes space feel warm, welcoming and safe. Selick used this to show that Caroline is happy and feels at home in the other world.  This helps show the theme 'looks can be deceiving' because caroline feels safe but by the end of the film we will discover that the other world is a perfect trap designed to catch Caroline.

Home Economics - Apple and Pear Crumble

In Cooking, we worked in our group of four like we usually do, as we made an Apple and Pear Crumble.  I think we worked well as we worked in a different kitchen, I could find some of the things we needed for the recipe it felt like I was wasting time. But now I know in that kitchen for next time where everything is. Overall it was delicious it tasted good.

English - Caroline study work in progress

In English, this time the is task is to, find a friend and Film a Conversation between you where you discuss in detail at least two of the themes from the film. (one each). Remember to give examples from the text to support your thinking.

Neglection

Caroline's parents don't pay attention to her and often leaving her alone for heir own lives and work. As she is an old child and she does not have any siblings, to keep her company, so she always annoys her parents, to give her something to do, but they mostly ignore her most of the time because they have more important things to do like work, as they think Caroline is like a roadblock as she always gets in their ways. Caroline would have to try to entertain herself, this shows in her love of exploring.

Versions of reality

The differences between the otherworld and reality look very alike but different in some ways. Like, in reality, is boring and without that much bright color s, as in the other world, everything is so neat and tidy and colorful. The reason why it is seen like that is it is Coraline's perspective of it if she is not happy everything looks all boring. As at the end after the other mother's world is sealed up, the mood of reality becomes all vibrant and that is because of Caroline feeling happy, and not bored.

Overcoming fears

For Coraline, she overcomes a lot of fears, of simple things.
(I need some time to think about)

English - Caroline study

In English, another task that ive been working on is about identifying 2-3 character strengths.
The three strengths I think are in Caroline, Bravery, Perspective, and Self-regulation. I chose these three because it suits it, in the movie Caroline, there is bravery in the other Whybie, he was ok on saving Caroline life and allowing her to escape, as it shows some self-regulation for other whybie, he tries to regulate himself in the different times that caroline visits the other mothers world. As the lasttrait goes to caroline everthing we see in the film at the start look all dull and boring but as her mood changes, everything around her changes around her as the color scheme does too.

Home economics - Spaghetti meatballs

In cooking, we made spaghetti and meatballs. I think we worked well as a team at the most of it. And  I think the end result turned out great. I tasted really good, but maybe next time I think we should even ot the spaghetti and meatballs more evenly, after all, we did work well.

English; Symbols

In English, this time our task was to choose from three and I chose tunnel between both worlds the other mother's world and Coraline's world. This is a symbol to the well that we are introduced to around the start of the movie, as we come back to it around the end, to dispose of the key, as well as the other mother's hand. As some people believe that the well is the same portal on the other side that leads to the other mother's world, but it is down the well, some people have noticed the simulatíes between them too, the way they both seem never-ending. I am not the best at theories. As the deeper down the well you look you seem to notice it starts to look like the tunnel through the door to the other mother's world. I may be wrong, so you do not need to belive this at all. So I've found multiple images with the similarities. (This paragraph probably isn't related to the task I was meant to do, I was meant to write about symbols, but the is more like a similarity.)

English; Music in film

In English, we are starting the workshop, and there will be more of them, and this workshop is based on Music in Coraline.

Example;
1. Piece one;
- peaceful fast pace, and happy vibe, cheerful. Full fo uplifting, full of energy
2. Piece two;
- Slow pace, sad sounding, a bit of anger, enjoyable, emotional, it sounds like someone losing someone dear to you and it sounds like the end of something bad, there is kinda a bit of happiness in it.
Music in film
Non-diagetic - not a natural sound e.g music
Diagetic - natural sounds e.g door slamming/footsteps

Tempo - means speed 'how fast?'
fast - creates upbeat
slow - melancholy, sadder, less energy

Chords
Major - happy uplifting
Minor - sad, sinister

Dynamics - Volume 'how loud'
Quiet - makes you focus
Louder -  energy/attention
Starts quiet/get louder - build intensity

Coraline soundtracks
Track 1; Miss Spink & Forcible
Tempo - slow and fast-paced
Chords - Minor
Dynamics - Quiet

Track 2; Carolines dispair
Tempo - Slow
Chords - Minor
Dynamics - Quiet gets louder

Track 3; The beginning
Tempo - Slow
Chords -  Minor
Dynamics - starts quietly then gets louder

Track 4; The Garden scene
Tempo - Starts slow then goes Fast
Chords - Minor
Dynamics - Starts quietly then gets louder

Opening scene; The beginning
Build intensity and sound like a lullaby, made-up words, sung by little kids.

Paragraph Example
In the opening scene, music is used effectively to create an atmosphere. For example, tempo, chords, and dynamics make it feel like a creepy lullaby. The tempo starts slow but then gets faster, which builds intensity. it is in the minor key which makes it feel it sad. This makes the audience think the film will be mysterious, scary, and creepy.

SOST; Moari trades task

In social studies, we have there task to choose from and I chose the one about the mind map, about it because it seemed simple enough. I know there isn't that many details, because i didn't research that much about it.

Home economics; Chicken stir fry

In cooking, we made a chicken stir fry in-out individual groups of four. As we made our very own stir-fries, as the ingredients we used are, chicken, oil sesame - flavor, veg selection, and 2 min noodles(excluded flavor sachet). As some of us in our oven groups did not know how to cook 2 min noodles. As I  think after all the result was great, it tasted great. As our team's work was a bit better than the other lesson. I think I think we need to work on is being consistent on getting all the ingredients together, on cooking the noodles. Overall we did great.

Film study - Coraline Task 1

In English, we are doing a film study on Coraline, and there is a heap of set tasks to complete so there will be more of these types of posts about Coraline. And this is my first task and it is about settings, and the task I chose was a visual response, it was simple enough to do was to write about a certain scene and what I think it's importance means in the film, and I chose the scene down below in the slideshow. I have no idea what is the name so yeah... I hopefully wrote the things I needed to do.

And I forgot to mention in the slideshow is about the rest of the scenery, so here's my take on it, everything seems all gloomy dark and pale and pastel, as the hill seemed as well that they were standing on.
