Art 1.2 Practical art - Portfolio art

 In art, we have working towards producing art for our portfolio, so far I have managed to produce both wet and dry media. but, mainly for the first board, I have steadily focused on painting. I have planned out for the next board the use of digital, charcoal-based and pencil pieces.

Here is a photo of the end results of the first board.

Why you may ask? The reason I have chosen this theme and kaupapa is I wanted to try something different for one a go out of my confront zone trying to discover something different and experiment with painting and drawing things(like fish) that I would normally not. My favourite piece from board one that I've put a lot of effort into is the one with the koi fish swimming through the city right below the ribbon eels. I feel like a put a lot of depth and shadow into this one, unlike the others I've produced.

Here are some pieces from panel 2 I've been slowly developing:

- The first one, I've used the use of charcoal pencils and normal-led pencils.

- The second one, I have done using a digital drawing program using various tools

Panel 2 (Board 2)

The next thing I have planned for the second board is going to be focused on mainly the use of digital painting with a few charcoal-pencil drawings. the board's theme will similarly reflect the theme/kaupapa of the first board/panel but, the addition of warmer colours and tones. (sampled in the two species above)

The first one is going to complement my other city piece which is done with charcoal and is drawn in a similar manner. As for the second one, it was a base mock. I don't think I will finish, so I have something digital in mind for it.

                 

Passion Projects Forensic science - Criminalistics

For the past weeks, we have been working towards our project-based around blood. We have been researching for the past few weeks around the different types of blood splatter and stains. this project was to demonstrate the different types of blood splatter the slide show below explains it:

Art: Portfolio Progress

 In art we are been stedailiy progressing our art portfolios recently I have managed to complete the first board of my portfolio and currently. I've been building up the design for the second panel, I have managed to finish the planning and have begun working on the next pieces and series. below is the current layout of the second board it may be a bit of a rough sketch but it is still useable. (since it's a plan.)

English: Persuasive Writing (Pathos, Logos, Ethos)

Pathos is a quality that evokes pity or sadness

Pathos is used to persuade an audience by appealing to their emotions. authors use pathos to invoke sympathy for the audience; to make the audience feel what the author wants them to feel.

For instance: "if we don't move soon, we are all going to die! can't you see how dangerous it would be to stay?" 

Whenever someone try to make you feel bad enough to do something, they're using pathos as a rhetorical tool. pathos examples in everyday life include: a teenager tries to convince parents to buy him a new car by saying if they cared about their child's safety they'd upgrade him.

Logos is the principle of reason and judgment, associated with the animus

Logos is used to refer to the use of logic and reasoning in crafting a piece of persuasive writing or rhetoric. Logos can also be thought of as the text of the argument, as well as how well a writer has argued his/her point.

For instance: 'All men are mortal. Socrates is a man.'

Other examples of logos being used by a politician to plea for a tax reform: 'Our country has the highest income tax in the world.' Our own small businesses cannot compete with such a relatively high tax burden. therefore, the government should lower corporate income tax rates.

Ethos is the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community manifested in its attitudes and aspirations

Ethos can be applied to writing and public speaking, and all writers use ethos to a certain extent to establish authority on a given subject and to build trust with readers.

Examples of ethos can be shown in your speech or writing by sounding fair and demonstrating your expertise or pedigree. For instance: 'As a Doctor, I am qualified to tell you that this course of treatment will likely generate the best results.'

Why are we doing it? - To help improve and build on our writing.

Art: Series and Sequences

 In Art, we were given the take to identify certain bits of art from the portfolio below that could be considered to be in their own separate groups, such as a series or a separate piece. As to answer how does what you see as a whole relates within the folio.

Art: Rinko Kawauchi photography

 In art, we are using photoshop to edit the photos we had taken the past week. I was working alongside summer suggesting some places and things that would be suitable to take a photo of we had taken many photos in the span of an hour. We couldn't use all but to chose between 3 or 4 (the minimum). And try to replicate the feeling and style that the artist (Rinko Kawauchi) has shown and portrayed in her photos/photography style. 

I based the editing style of these photos from her work: The river embraced me (2016) - Rinko Kawauchi

It's not the same as hers I would have liked them. (Good Enough). In these photos I tried to give the feel of everything slowly fading, and tried to give a warm feel, of past things of memories of sorts looking into the sun too long can mess up your sight a bit. I tried to make use of yellowish pinks, reds, and whites to give off a warm feel also.

English: SDL on Film Aspects

In English, we are working on definitions and explaining the film aspects and how they affect the film. These are the first two of them of the chosen four I have done so far. the four I have chosen are POV- Point of view, Colour of film, OTS - Over the shoulder, and Tone in film. I am not sure If I had answered these accurately as I could but good enough.

 Describe the artwork:

Gives the feeling of lost empty, deserted, it gives a feeling of confusion dullness loneliness, as the girl is heading towards the unknown light off into the distance. This piece can also give an eerie feel as the girl is shown to be alone.  As the unknown figure can be seen in a shadow in the distance hidden behind the building it really gives you to feel to find out who the exact figure. As it's described in the name a 'mystery'. It is a real mystery to find out how it's really meant to be interpreted as personally.

Subversion through recolonizing

Notes on video;

Unity in diversity shines throughout Sofia's work, myths legends, etc she gets from her Maori culture and links them to other cultures, and combines them together in her pieces. Some of her works are named after Maori goddesses. She wants them to be seen as more of their ancestors.

Piece of her work: Twelve Heavens

Brief description: This painting used the effect of replicating the same image around in

a circle, it really gives a slight feel of the gate that isn't human but a

reflection of time going by. The white complements the black greatly and in the pattern, it kind of gives the feel of it warping out of the white canvas.  It also gives the feel of a clock or an animation reel.

Does it show Subversion and so

Subversion is shown in the many repetitions of the same person in the circle making it stand out and out of the ordinary. as it put standing out of the page in the ring. as it gives the feel of it being a focal point opening up.

Burning forest

Today in class I watched a video about a burning forest burning for 60 seconds. In this video was posted in 2018 the location not shown that I know was marveled by the flames. I watched this video due to recently answering a quiz jokingly, as one of the places you want to go to. Burning forest.  Even though burning foresty is not a good thing, the colour in this scene is a beautiful colour with yellow, orange, pink, and the blueish purple.  How it changed over time was unexpected to these colours their vibrant nature when night came around it really showed. Subversion as a compositional framework 

Each individual thing is either relating to one each other or confronting/battling the other than many squares surrounding the word 'gossip' small fish, triangles, and korus are used in many different ways. The colours used are different tones of red and orange and hints of white and black in the mix. the first thing I look at is the swirls clashing with one and another. the objects that are used seem to be random a mixture of three things, fish, triangles, korus and swirls. To me, this artwork gives a feeling a very different feel with the word gossip as some of the many squares could relate to that as the way they are being presented. like chatter, separating as in linking to how the fish are presented by. as for the many swirls in the bottom left corner represent the presence of gossip in a way. and the many triangles could represent the sharpness of the chatter. 

Lord loss - Darren Shan

There a book that I have wanted to read, the title is called Lord loss by Darren Shan, this book but it is a book that has been recommended to me, and a book that I have been interested in, it is about a werewolf-thing. A family cursed to be werewolves. and they have to break the curse from the demon I believe. A bit of the blurb on the back: The door feels red hot, as though a fire is burning behind it. i press an ear to the wood but there is no crackle. no smoke. just deep heavy breathing... and a curious dripping sound. (blood)

brief noting of the article - Subversion of Art

art is meant to subvert, it is a pure expression of a subjective way/an interpretation of seeing the world in each individual perspective. if everyone likes your art you are doing something wrong and if people dislike that means you are apparently doing something right. it meant to mess and unsettle some people and get an argument or conversation out of people or a reaction started about a controversial issue of sorts.

The panels and blues give it a feel pushing the gold out the most, the gold makes the fish stand out out the most and be the most noticeable at a first look I believe it is also tied with the arrow-like fern, but the dark blue really makes the gold stuck out compared to the lighter blues used of the left. there is a small text located of both side but I, unfortunately, I cannot read them. I believe the text will help give a different feel to the perspective of the art piece, at a first glance

How is subversion demonstrated?

it can give thoughts of confusion the many squares gives a feel of overlapping, as the arrow point in a different direction, trying to reach somewhere with the use of primary color mixed in. trying to be more seen than one each other it looks like they are constantly overthrowing one and each other. like ones trying to more concentrated than the other.

Art Subject matter (Moon board)

 In Art, we have begun looking forward and researching and gathering art pieces from artists we are interested in doing a different concept. out of the four options to based the collection of similar art pieces I have chosen it to be based around Sofia Minson. I have been leaning towards the themes around the environment and spiritual/cultural.
